Fall Coronation Report - the Ascension of Tristan II and Damiana II

Greetings!

Right after Her Majesty Damiana was crowned and proclaimed, I realized I wouldn't have enough power in my device to report on their opening court.

As is tradition in this kingdom, once the Queen is proclaimed, the various oaths of service and fealty were administered.  Their Majesties began with the Landed Barons and Baronesses, explaining that they felt it was important to acknowledge their role as stewards of the Crown's lands.

Following this, the Peerage made their oaths, starting with the Chivalry.  Those peers who do not swear fealty but wish to acknowledge and wish the Crown well came forth and shared drink, with Master Balldrich, the sole Master of Arms in attendance, making a short speech.

The populace came forth to swear their oaths, followed by the officers of the kingdom.

Once the Coronation court was closed, the official court was opened and Their Majesties were proclaimed by the crowd.  His Majesty Tristan came forth and spoke of the themes he wished to express during his reign.

He began by acknowledging that the King of the East was the true Storm King, due to a little girl named Sandy that packed a nice punch (and delayed the delivery of Countess Ilora's scroll, made in its entirety by Maestra Alex the Scribe, Signet Emeritus of Atenveldt).  Being the good sport that He is, he decided to name his reign the "Revenge of the Weather King" instead, the acclaim of the populace.  To start out his reign, He and Her Majesty gave out little packages containing ponchos to the Barons and Baronesses as well as the crowd.

After the laughs died down, talk became more serious.  He spoke of how the Society is a huge family and the difference between Blood and Chosen Family.  He reminded the people that we as a Kingdom are a large chosen family and to enjoy each other and never forget to acknowledge and thank them for being part of your life.  He spoke in sadness of those who could not join us and asked us to keep them in our hearts.

Following this, the Senior Members of the court were introduced and the Guards and Ladies asked to come forward to receive their favors, which were blue satchels with the Aten Sun painted on the cover.

Her Majesty Damiana came forward and spoke.  She stated that They would make a concerted effort to ensure that as many people as possible were thanked for their work in the Kingdom, whether at court or in private.  She then called forward the gentles that worked on the garb that Their Majesties were wearing today.  Mistress Francesca, who was the lead for the project, was given a book of patterns for her service.  Lady Rosamand and Lady Margaret who worked on the embroidery, were given jewelery.  Also thanked and given largesse were Baroness Eahba for her work in making the guard and lady favors for the court  as well and Lady Norah for her services as Site Steward and Baroness Saba for organizing the Soup Kitchen lunch for the day.

Thegn Morgan and Bannthegn Elizabeth came forth with a small presentation of a little snowglobe with a monkey in it.  His Majesty made a great show of playing with it.

Thomas and Illora came forth to collect their due for having served the kingdom with their first reign.  Count Thomas' scroll was made in its entirety by Mistress Dairine and Countess Ilora was inducted into the Ladies of the Rose by the assembled Royal Peeresses, being given several rose pendants to begin her collection.

Finally, Their Majesties spoke of Estrella War and their wish for all of the troops to be a sea of blue and yellow.  As an incentive, they stated that they would be looking to give out the Esprit de Corps award to the best dressed fighting unit at this year's war.  They rolled out the fabulous banner made by Sir Valora that would be given to the winning unit.  They also stressed that this award was NOT limited to units from Atenveldt and that ANY UNIT from ANY KINGDOM was eligible to win the prize.  This made Princess Mari of Cynagua smile.

Court was then recessed.  Before doing so, Their Majesties stressed that court would not close until the end of their reign.  Court could happen at Any Time during a Kingdom Event.

Kingdom Arts and Sciences Competition 2012 - Final Court wrap up and List of Winners

Greetings!

After a long day of judging, tournaments, socializing, meetings and fun, final court began.  Her Majesty Illora was running the show as His Majesty had to leave for a family commitment.

Court began with announcing the winners of the various tournaments held during the day.  THL Malise came forward and announced Lord Takago, who had earlier been awarded with the Luxbruder of Atenveldt, as the overall winner of the day.  He received a book about armor and weaponry.

HE Heinrich of Mons Tonitrus was named as the fighter with the most period look on the field.  He was given a rapier blade.

Lord Duncan then came up and introduced the three youth fighters that participated in their tournament.  These future Kings and Queens were M'lord Jacob Fisher, M'lady Alexis, and M'lord Christopher ap Odde.  They were all declared winners and given a boffer great sword for their participation.  M'lord Christopher got a second sword for showing the most fearlessness in the field.

Baroness Elena and Sir Nudd then came forward to recognize the winners of the first annual Duke Deaton Greatsword Tournament.  Lord Ciaran Gallowglass was recognized as the most chivalrous fighter.  He was presented a set of stainless steel gauntlets.  His Highness Tristan gave them to him and publically recognized him for his conduct on the tournament field.  Sir Jakob, his knight, was also recognized for having such a gallant squire.

The overall winner of the Tournament, however, was the Honorable Giles Richardson.  He fought for the honor of Her Excellency Julianna of Mons Tonitrus.  He recieved a set of greaves made by the hands of Sir Casca and Sir Nudd.  Her Excellency was allowed first pick of the Ladies Prize table.

Baroness Elena then spoke of the consort lamentation contest.  It truly added an element of fun and gaiety to the tournament, watching the ladies react to their fighters on the field.   Her Excellency, along with several other ladies, just couldn't pick a decisive winner and instead chose a top three and an honorable Mention.

In first place, we had Lady Allasan Tamelyn, whose hysterics and lamenations on the field on behalf of her lord husband Odde were a tribute to her love for him.  She was invited to the Ladies Table to pick out a prize.

Second, M'lord Jacob Fisher was recognized for his reaction to Lord Henrich's death on the field: "Are you my new daddy?"

In Third, Lady Anna Sophia was recognized for her efforts at clearing the field of her fighter after he lost.

A special Honorable mention was given to Baron Brian of Granite Mountain, who properly mourned the loss of his squire in true falsetto fashion.  He was also invited to take a prize from the Ladies table, much to the amusement of Baron Zhigmund of Tir Ysgthir.

Following Lady Lia's announcement of the Pas de Arms taking place in Tir Ysgthir on December 16th, Lady Elinore L'Adorable came forth to thank all of the judges who participated in the competition, followed by Master Simon thanking the cooking staff for an excellent luncheon that kept the judges from eating each other and the entries.

After that, the Youth entrants were called forward.  The following future Laurels submitted entries and were allowed to pick prizes from the Children's Table:

M'lord Christopher ap Odde with two entries
M'lord Tristan ap Odde with two entries
M'lady Arwen MacArthur
M'lady Annalise
M'lord Jacob Fisher

Congratuations to M'lord Jacob, who was the overall winner as is the first Arts and Sciences Youth Champion that the kingdom has had in many years!

The winners of the Novice and the Open Categories were announced.  Each winner received a wonderful, unique scroll made by the West of Windale Scriptorium and other Scribes of the kingdom under the direction of Mistress Eden Blacksmith.  Congratulations to all the winners:

After all of the prize giving, Master Raven and Mistress Elsa, the outgoing Champion, came forward and thanked all of the participants, judges, and staff that worked to make the event a success.  Her Majesty then came forward and thanked the two ladies who put themselves forward for champion and expressed the difficulty of the decision.  She then announced that Lady Kristen Maria Matz had won the day and was proclaimed the next Kingdom Arts and Sciences Champion!  There was tremendous applause as she came forward to recieve her medallion and recognition.  I might also add that she was also one of the site stewards for the event, so this is definitely a well earned accolade.  Congratulations!

Finally, Her Majesty called forward Lord Martin de Gras, who ran and leaped his way into her presence.  He was commended for his excellent job as Steward and recognized for his grace, courtesy and good bearing.  Her Majesty stated that she looked to him as an example of proper behavior and because of this, awarded him with her Grace to the thunderous approval of the crowd.

Court ended right after that and everyone scrambled to get out of the site, since it was well past dark by then.  I myself headed out to dinner and went to bed not soon after.

Overall, a very successful day.  Congratulations to all so honored, and I encourage you to check out the various pictures of the artifacts entered and of the days events.  Always, a fun day in Atenveldt.

Crown Tournament Finals and Wrap Up

Forgive me for not typing this up sooner.  I was overtaken by events.

Round six began with the rain starting to fall.  The fights went very quickly, and I did not have time to watch them because I was updating round five the whole time.  After the fights were over, Tristan, Donnegal and Ivan remained.

I did stop long enough to observe the fight between Tristan and Morgan.  Morgan is back in the circut after stepping down as Baron of Twin Moons.  He made a vow when he stepped up to the Baronial Thrones that he would not fight in Crown while he was Baron.  He kept that vow and was the first to submit his letter and be accepted to the list.  He did this in court right after he stepped down at Twin Moon's Baronial Birthday event in June.

Tristan is his knight.

That was the longest fight of that round and in the end, Tristan prevailed.  At the end of round six, he was still the only fighter who was undefeated.

Round seven began with Ivan vs. Donnegal.  Donnegal prevailed, thus ending Ivan's chance at the crown.  Fear not, however.  We'll see him again on the list, and he'll win it too.

Tristan then fought the by fighter, Duke Mathghamhain.  Throughout the tournament, His Grace fought as a destructive By fighter.  This did not change for that fight.  I also believe that His Grace was Tristan's knight.  In the end, though, Tristan prevailed.  He was still undefeated going into the final round.

It was at this point that the rain started falling in earnest.  People ran for cover, and I had to scramble to make sure my electronic devices did not get wet (this stuff is expensive, you know).  His Majesty decreed a delay to let the weather pass by.

After about a half an hour, though, it was clear that the storm would be staying for awhile.  In fact, the rain kept coming down harder.  Donnegal and Tristan chose to fight anyway.  The final fight was announced and everyone gathered around the eric.  I stayed under the list tent, to protect my electronics, but there was a clear view from where I stood, since the crowd was careful not to block the list table's view.

It was announced that Tristan had chosen to keep his advantage going into the final round.  Thus, Donnegal would have to win twice in order to claim the day. As the Heralds announced the two fighters, the thunder and lightning seemed to punctuate their words, provoking whoops and hollers of approval from the crowd.  Although it was raining, the Aten Sun was shining fiercely in the souls of the fighters and the populace as they observed the ritual of Crown Tournament.  Many comments about Thor were overheard by the list table.

Alas, I could not really watch the fight, as the fighters kept to the left of the eric, which was blocked by the populace.  However, the final blow was struck, and Donnegal fell.  Just as Tristan was proclaimed Prince, a peal of thunder sounded not very far from where we stood.  It seems that Thor approved.  The crowd roared, and Tristan placed the Prince's crown on his brow, followed by his declaration of love and devotion to his lady wife, Damiana.  In turn, he place the crown on her brow, too.

After that, there was a scramble because the rain started falling REALLY bad.  I made my way to the troll tent and awaited news of court.  The chivalry began their meeting under the kingdom pavilion and then it was announced that Court was recessed until Sunday morning.  I was offsite soon after.

Alas, I could not be there today.  I sit at home, waiting to hear from my correspondent about the results of the tournaments and announcements from final court. The modern world sometimes has to intrude, and loudly.

However, I took the time today to write this so that the saga of this Tournament would have a closing chapter.

It was truly an exhausting day and I am still recovering from it.  However, as long as I am able to, I will always attend Crown Tournament.  Truly, a magical day, rain and all.

Until next time, Atenveldt!

Barony of Atenveldt Investiture

Greetings!

I apologize for the lateness of this Court report.

Their Majesties elevated Erik Bloodaxe Erikson and Thyri Erickson to the Star of the Desert, Gules, for their efforts at Estrella War.  They then recessed their court.

During Edward and Annalies' final court, the following awards and recognition were given out:

Sir Elias Loredan & Mirelle de Leseaux - Palm Leaf of Atenveldt

Merewin of Edington & Edeline de Diekirche - Bowman rank in Archery

Kedivor Tal ap Cadugan - Azure Chalice

Nader of Barony Atenveldt - Sable Axe

Jean Andre Boeye - Purpure Clarion

Ritchyrd MacUath, Countess Leonore, Lady Morgaine, Lord Timmogen, Lady Sage, m'lord Tooker - Baroness' Signet

During Seelo's and Elena's first court, they bestowed upon Lord Duncan Bane Fuar Bathais the Azure Chalice.

It was truly a lovely day, and there was a lot of happiness and joy.  The food smelled good, and I hear that those who partook in the feast had a great time.

Coronation is this weekend and I promise to do a better job of reporting.  Until then, Atenveldt!

The Day After - Opening Court Report

This morning, the sun shone brightly as the populace gathered around the blue and yellow pavillion to begin the day. Their Majesties and Highnesses sat with all of the Barons and Baronesses except for Ered Sul. Her Majesty stated that now, the War season had truly begun, and that Estrella promises to be an epic time. She mentioned that the current Bard of the Sun, Lord Patrick the Butcher, was preparing shenanigans that would delight and suprise the populace.

Baron Heinrich and Baroness Julianna came forth and spoke about the upcoming Barmaids event, being held the weekend of April 20th. There are plenty of activities for everyone, including a series of A&S classes that will be offered to the populace!

Then, I came forward and spoke of the success of the paper fan fundraiser. All 54 fans were sold in less than a half hour. Another run of fans will be available for sale at Estrella War. In addition, I spoke of photography commissions that would be accepted for a contribution to the Kingdom General Fund as well as the book drive for the sale happening at Kingdom A&S Collegium being held at Mons Tonitrus the second weekend in June.

Baron Brian and his Lordship Chance came forward and spoke about their respective tournaments. Both tournaments will include bearpit and traditional tournament styles, allowing for lots fo fighting. Throughout these announcements, there was a gaiety and joy in the populace as they exchanged jokes and revelery back and forth with the assembled royalty.

Finally, Their Majesties stated that a medallion had been found near the thrones and that they wished for the person to come forward. Since no one stood and claimed the medallion, His Majesty walked out of the Pavillion to Lady Bethia Somers (known as B), the Acting Kingdom Sheriff, and stated that perhaps this medallion belonged to her. Confused, she showed him her Beacon medallion and stated she already had that award. His Majesty bade her to look closer and see that the medallion in his hand was for the Light of Atenveldt! The crowd roared with laughter and approval as a bewildered Bethia was led to the thrones and presented as the newest member of this august Order.

On that high note, court recessed and the tournaments began in earnest. Stay tuned to the Kingdom of Atenveldt Faebook page for rapid fire coverage of closing court!

Crown Tournament Closing Court - Today was a GOOD day!

Closing court began with the Crowns and Coronets seated at their thrones.  Since HRH Thomas was “unavailable”, as it were, heralding duties were taken over by His Grace, Duke Eduard.  It’s okay, he’s done this before.

Her Majesty pumps her fist in the air and yells, “Go Piggies!”  Truly, a great day for the Barony of Tir Ysgthir, as two out of the three finalists hailed from this Barony.  His Majesty spoke words of praise for the caliber of today’s tournament.  Truly, I can agree with this statement, having witnessed this tournament with my own eyes and seeing the good, clean blows that were dealt and accepted.  His Royal Highness also spoke, thanking the populace and expressing his excitement at being able to serve our wonderful kingdom.

Because this will be the first time that there will be a Crown Prince and Princess at Estrella, Their Majesties presented some regalia that was commissioned in order to ease the burden on Their Highnesses and provide some beautiful works of art for their office.  Lady Valora tou Ayiva, known far and wide for her excellent silk banners, presented a set of silk banners showing the heraldry for the Crown Prince and Princess.  These will be used to designate their encampment at Estrella.  Mistress Cassandra of Kingswear came forth and presented the first of four different types of fighting tunics that will be constructed and included in the Regalia.  These tunics will bear the Crown Prince and Princess’ heraldry as well.  HRH Thomas announced that HRH Illora will be taking the heavy combat field at Estrella.  Thus, all of our Royalty will be defending the Kingdom at Estrella War this year.

Lord Martin de Gras, Corona Herald, came forward and presented tokens of his appreciation to the heralds that assisted him in today’s tournament.  These tokens were in the form of a small stainless steel flasks decorated with a special sticker commemorating the recipient’s role as a Field Herald for this Crown Tournament.  Baron Michaelis, Lord Kedivor, THL Jean Andre, THL Jerusha (Hey, that’s me!  ;) and Master Seamus “Padre” were called forth and recognized for their work in the today’s tournament.  Three cheers were given, and His Majesty took the time to thank all of the staff and officers that help run Crown Tournament.

Their Majesties called forth Luanna of Atenveldt, who is the lady of Sir Ian Nudd, the current Kingdom Earl Marshal.  As she knelt in front of them, they spoke of her service to the kingdom and her efforts as a “spousal deputy” to Sir Nudd, providing him with love and support in his duties.  Their Majesties chose to recognize her as a Lady of Atenveldt and extolled her to continue in her service.

Baron Brian the Pious, the current Warlord, was called forward to speak about the following day’s tournament.  Because of the change in the Estrella War date, His Majesty announced that the winner of tomorrow’s tournament would be known as the Prince’s Warlord and would be invested as Warlord at Coronation.  Brian announced that the tournament would be open to all fighters, Chivalry and non, and asked that fighters come prepared with gauntlets and two handed weapons.

Her Majesty then spoke of the Queen’s Rapier Championship tournament that will be taking place tomorrow as well.  It will be a bear pit style tournament with the top fighters moving forward to a traditional tournament style.  She asked that all Rapier fighters bring their cards.

I would like to stop for a moment to describe the shenanigans that were going on during these announcements were being made.  It seems that Baroness Elizabeth was continuing her quest to fatten up the warriors of the kingdom by constantly tossing Twinkies to his Majesty.  He in turn would toss the Twinkies to Baron Brian, who would then toss them to the crowd.  In addition, there was much witty banter between the Queen, the Herald, and the King.  Suffice it to say, there was a spirit of giddiness and fun that is a joy to see in a court.

Their Majesties call forward Thegn Tighernain the Hound to Their Presence.   They speak of this good man’s service to the Crown and Kingdom through his work as a formal Earl Marshal, Baron, and artisan for the Kingdom.  They recognize his service by making him a Companion of the Beacon of the Desert.

Dame Jennifer Trethyw is called up and thanked for her service as Kingdom Signet for the past two years.  Her successor, Mistress Dairine, is called forth and swears the oath of service to the Kingdom as the newest Kingdom Signet.  Her lord, Sir Jacob, holds the Sword of State as this is done.  Three Cheers were given for both ladies and to the continuation of the Scribal tradition of this great kingdom!

Their Majesties called forth Viscountess Victoria, Baroness Magdalene, and Mistress Tigra and introduced them as the Main Stewards for Estrella War 29.  They will observe at this year’s war and will run it next year.  A solid roar of approval came from the crowd.

Lord Correus Dracontius was called forth.  Their Majesties spoke of his service to the Shire of Granholme, serving as the Seneschal as well as assisting his lady wife with stewarding various events in their Shire.  For his continuing service to the kingdom, he was admitted unto the Light of Atenveldt!

Her Majesty brings forth the Shield of Chivalry, beaning His Majesty over the head with it in the process of getting it out from behind the thrones.  She thanked the outgoing bearer, Master Charles De Lacey, for his tenure and acknowledged his great deeds on the field.  Then, she spoke of the hard decision that she had to make, due to the many acts of chivalry, courtesy and grace that the fighters on the list demonstrated.  She stated that there was no clear winner from the Ladies of the Rose nor could she find consensus with other people she questioned about the tournament.  She said that this was a testimony to the grandness and high character of the day.  She stated that she chose the bearer of the Shield based on their conduct both in the tournament and without.  She spoke of this person’s heart, drive, and willingness to learn.  To the roar of the crowd, she called forward Sayyida Mariyah al-Medinah and invested her as the Bearer of the Shield of Chivalry.

Finally, Their Majesties asked Lady Tatiana Verolini to come forward and demonstrate the new parasol she was commissioned to make.  Based on a period design, the parasol can be folded into a bag that is specially made for it, and the top finial has its own padded box so that it can be protected when not being used.  As she was putting the final finishing touches on the bag, Their Majesties spoke of her artistic prowess and how the beautiful parasol was almost like… a masterwork.

There was about five seconds of silence.  Slowly, Tatiana’s face blanched, and to the overwhelming approval of the populace, Their Majesties called forward the Order of the Laurel!  Dumbfounded, Tatiana sank to her knees as Their Majesties explained that she would be asked a question and her answer would be received at Sunday Court at Estrella War.  She was then yanked up by the excited Laurels around her and was about to be led away when Her Majesty stopped them.  It seems, she was not quite done yet.

A hushed silence fell on the crowd as Her Majesty came forward and started walking out of the pavilion and scanned the area with her hand over her eyes. Indeed, all eyes were on her as she walked up and down the aisle, searching for the next candidate for the Order of the Laurel.  She went back into the pavilion, and made her way to the front row, over to where THL Raven Mayne was sitting with his lady wife, Mistress Turrel.  She took him by the hand and started leading him towards the thrones.  At first, there were small gasps and individual shouts, as the view of the populace was blocked by the assembled Order.  But soon, the word spread like wildfire and the Crowd rose to its feet.  I will unabashedly state that I was jumping up and down for sheer joy and a grin appeared on my face that has yet to leave.  To the most ardent approval of the crowd, Their Majesties asked Raven to contemplate accepting the Order of the Laurel from their hands!  They announced that they wished him to present his masterwork at Coronation and answer the question at that time.

The candidates were led away and Their Majesties announced that the following morning’s court would begin at 11am.  They then closed their court and the crowd disbursed, running towards the newest candidates as well as preparing for an evening under the stars or back at home.

Tomorrow is another day, but today was truly a red letter day for this kingdom.  Once again, Craven and Elzbieta have chosen wisely and well in their accolades.  Estrella War will be an event of EPIC proportions!

2nd fight - Sir Thomas vs. Sir Ivan

A BTY rumble in the jungle.  Two well matched knights from the same household.  Line drive in and it's Sir Thomas for the win!

Long live Prince Thomas and Princess Ilora!

1st Fight - Donnegal vs. Thomas

They circle each other warily, looking for an opening.  Many feints and near hits.  Finally, Sir Thomas drives in a hit and wins.

Final Round - Fighter Introductions

Sir Ivan is introduced by Master Simon
Sir Donnegal is introduced by Lord Marek
Sir Thomas is introduced by Duke Eduard

Final Round Coming Up!

And then there were Three.

Sir Ivan Petrovich, Sir Thomas de Revelle and Sir Donnegal Buchanan are the final three fighters.  Each has one one loss and the final round will consist of continous fights.  In order to win, the combatant must win TWO fights IN A ROW.

The fighters are given a ten minute break to prepare themselves, their heralds, and their consorts.  The Chivalry converges on the final eric to witness the determination of the next Crown of Atenveldt.  Soon, we will have a new Prince, and whoever winds will be reigning for the first time. Stay tuned for the first fight, Donnegal vs. Thomas!

Duke Eduard vs. Sir Donnegal

Thes two are pretty active, circling around the eric and showing a lot of energy.
Donnegal hits Eduard square in the helm, moving forward!  THe Crowd Roars it's approval!

Sir Ivan vs. Sir Kazemir

Ivan drops Kazemir down to his knees and then is kneed down, but with a spectacular thrust to the helm, he defeats his foe and moves forward.  The blow is well recieved and the Crowd goes Wild!

Round Six: Sir Thomas vs. Duke Phelan (destructive By)

The theme of this fight is slow and calculating.  The fighters circle each other, giving small shots to test each other's defenses.  Finally, Duke Phelan puts in a sweet shot and Sir Thomas goes down, losing his first bout and clearing the list of undefeated fighters.

Round Six Coming up!

We're down to five fighters, and the By will make another appearance this round, and he will be fighting Sir Thomas, the only undefeated fighter.  Remember, the By fight is destructive!
We're down to the wire and it looks like the new Prince of the Sun will be determined in the next couple of rounds, which are going to be some juicy fights!

Round Five: Sir Donngal vs. Duke Phelan (Destructive By fighter)

Sir Donngal wins and remains in the tournament with one loss.

Round Five: Sir Shawn vs Sir Ivan

Sir Ivan for the Win!  Sir Shawn is out.

Round Five: SIr Tighernain and Sir Kazemir

Sir Kazemir for the win!  Sir Tighernain is now out.

Round Five - Duke Eduard vs. Sir Thomas

THe only two undefeated fighters square off.  Perhaps it is no suprise that Sir Thomas was squired to Duke Eduard.  They circle around each other, these two well matched fithters, and the area is silent, almost like it's a final -

And it's Sir Thomas for the Win!  He's now the only Undefeated fighter left on the list!

Round Four Results

Round Four has ended and the following gentles are out:
Duke Arthur O'Flaherty
Sir Balin Michael Guiscard
Master Dietrich Nibelung

Mixed Weapons War Court Report - Feb 12th 2012

Greetings, friends, from THL Jerusha, your Virtual Herald!

I decided to make my way to Mixed Weapons War at Bumblebee Ranch kind of at the last minute.  I had modern obligations and a busy weekend ahead of me.  But I am glad I went.  I got to see lots of wonderful arts and crafts and I was able to witness court, which turned out to be a momentous occasion indeed.  You can check out the pictures from the event by Lady Clarice and Mistress Gwendolen on their Facebook pages

Court began with the court heralds arguing about the weather.  Of course, Her Majesty had to calm them down, declaring the day beautiful.  They then recessed Their court so that Sundragon could hold theirs.

Viola and Wallace opened their court with words of thanks and welcome to the populace as well as their traditional toast to the health of the kingdom and Their Majesties.  They then proceeded to have the event stewards, THL Gepa and Lady Annabel, give out their general announcements.

Following this, M’lady Noor came forward and spoke of the Equestrian community and stated that bi weekly meetings are being held for anyone who is interested in this aspect of the society.  Their Excellences publically recognized and thanked her, Lady Saragrace and Lady Angelina for all of their efforts on the behalf of the Equestrian community

Wolf Schultz was then called forth by Their Excellencies and given a scroll signed by them commemorating his achievement of the Bowman rank in Archery.  They stressed how much they appreciated the Archery community in the Barony for all of their support and participation in the event and in the Barony overall.

After that, as the Herald read the charter for the Commander of the Honor of Sundragon, His Excellency walked the crowd, looking for someone.  To the general cheer of the crown, he placed his hand on Lady Lann-Valdis O’Davorreanne and escorted her to the front.  As the members of the order gathered around, Their Excellencies spoke of this woman’s talent, service and overall commitment to the Barony and inducted her as the Commander.  They then stated that as per the Charter of the award, they were allowed to give two Commanders a year, and with that, they pulled forward their herald, Lady Nastas’ia Volkovicha and added her to this order as well.  Looking back, this was to be a portent of suprises to come.

Master Robert the Silent was made to stay after the rest of the Order left.  As per Sundragon tradition, he returned the Baroness' Favor that he had been given last year so that it could be given out again.  He also was given some flowers as a thank you for continuing to inspire Her Excellency.  Once he departed, she called up the next bearer of the Baroness’ favor, Aulus Valerius. They then recessed their court and Kingdom Court was called to order.

Their Majesties spoke of the recent announcements made about modern matters and assured the populace that the Kingdom would be able to pay their fair share and continue to nurture the various groups and events that fall under this Kingdom.  They stressed the importance of attending events, paying site fees and continuing to show the best of the Society.  This announcement earned the heartfelt applause from the assembled populace.

They then began the business of calling forth worthy individuals  to recognize and award.  First up was Leila Noor of Atenveldt and her daughter, Roana Casmilie.  They are both relatively new to the Society, but have jumped in with both feet and have found themselves welcomed and appreciated for their efforts in the equestrian community.  Leila was given an Award of Arms and Roana was made a Hope of the Sun.

Next up, Annabel Chisolm, one of the stewards for today’s event, was called forth and made a Beacon of the Desert for her service to the Barony and Kingdom.

Lady Elsa Olavintytar, current Kingdom A&S Champion, came forth to announce the winners of the Display:

Populace Choice – Lady Clarice Alienor Neep
Laurel’s Choice – Lady Tatiana Verolini
Queen’s Choice – Lord Liam McCollum

Each gentle was given a small prize and thanked for their contributions to the beauty of this kingdom.

Next up, Lady Taburo no Koi was called forth and praised for her contributions to the Bardic Arts.  Thus, she was made a Flower of the Desert.  Her mother, Baroness Viola, beamed in happiness as her daughter was recognized.

Lady Saragrace Knauf was called forth and commended for her drive and commitment to the Equestrian Arts in this kingdom.  His Majesty stated emphatically that she is the “go-to” person for Equestrian.  Becausse of this, she was awarded the Silver Ribbon in the Order of the White Stirrup of Atenveldt.

Jacob inn Rammi was called forth and lauded for his leadership skills on the field of battle and his prowess in combat.  Thus, he was made a Legionnaire in the Guardians of Atenveldt

Their Majesties called forth the participants in the Youth Fighting scenarios and recognized m’Lord Logan of Sundragon for his victory in the tournament and M’lord Theo of Mightrinwood for his most excellent deaths on the field.  They paid the fighters with coin from their reign and emphasiesed the importance of the Youth in this kingdom as the future of the society.

Their Majesties called forward all members of the Light of Atenveldt.  As the members of the order approached the thrones, Their Majesties spoke of how in the past, the orders were called forth whenever a new person was inducted.  This usually made for a long court and that is currently no longer the custom.  However, they felt it right to call forth the order today so that they could
recognize a new member and let them know just how prestigious the order is.

Her Majesty went out and once again, Lady Lann-Valdis O’Davorreanne was brought forth to the thrones and made a companion of the order.  Again, the whole room cheered as Her Majesty spoke of Lann’s service and commitment to both the Barony and the Kingdom.

Finally,  Their Majesties called forth their newest flower, Lady Taburo no Koi, to present a piece for the populace.  She explained that she had started playing SCA at the age of six and that the kind words of a knight started her on her journey as a Bard in this Society.  Because of this, she has always felt an affinity for the Chivalry and wanted to create a spoken piece on Knighthood.  She went around to the various Knights in this kingdom and asked them “What is a Knight?”  His Majesty called forth the Order of the Chivalry and they sat around the throne as Lady Koi read her beautiful piece that spoke of the “sparkle in the eye” of the various knights that she spoke to and how they had so much passion for their station and their craft.  There was a thunderous applause at the end of her tale.

His Majesty thanked Koi for the wonderful piece and stated that he supported her in her research.  He then stated that he was only sorry that there was one person that she could not interview due to him not being a knight.  As he said this, he turned to his Herald, Thegn Christopher FitzArthur, grabbed him by the shirt, and pulled him to the front of the thrones!  The noise in the room was deafening!  Choruses of cheers, screams of joy (that was me, by the way) and shouts of affirmation echoed throughout the pavilion as the populace realized that this man was being offered his knighthood!  Once the roar went down, His Majesty placed him on vigil, and asked that he answer the question posed to him at Estrella War.  For once, Christopher was speechless, to the joy of the crowd!

With that exciting highlight, court ended and the various parties dispersed, getting ready for the evening’s activities.  I myself headed home, happy in the heart and very thankful to have decided at the last minute to come out to this event.

Next up, I will be doing full coverage of Crown Tournament, which will be held at Schnepf Farms in a couple of weeks.  Until then, Atenveldt!
